Physiol. 224(l): 136-139. 1973.-Administration of isoproterenol, to rats, as a single intraperitoneal dose of approximately 13 pg/kg body wt produced a sustained elevation in net efflux of Na from the lumen of the submaxillary main excretory duct during perfusion with isotonic NaCl solutions. Net influx of K to the luminal perfusate was decreased after isoproterenol. Prior administration of the ,&blocking agent, propranolol, suppressed the effects of isoproterenol on transductal fluxes of Na and K. The effects of isoproterenol on the perfused excretory duct can account in part for the electrolyte composition of saliva produced by the intact submaxillary gland in response to isoproterenol stimulation
